I read a book a while ago that talked about the topic of boundaries. The author painted the picture as a fence dividing your yard from mine. A distinct, definitive boundary. Unfortunately, not all boundaries are as visible. In fact most are figurative, which can make it even harder to know where to draw the line. When I think about my limits, I try to paint that same picture, at what point are you stepping onto my property? How does that make me feel? And when is it the right time to communicate that?
I wish this concept had been taught to me at a much younger age, because I’ve had to go back and uproot a lot of unhealthy dynamics that I just adapted too over the years. I can tell you from personal experience it is so freeing not just for you but your mind when you know what you are willing & not willing to tolerate. My encouragement to you is to remain flexible, no one boundary is a one size fits all. But stand firm in your decision. Don’t continue to let people trespass your yard, its sacred.
